Hello friends! How’s your week been so far?
Last week, I had the pleasure of perusing some local antique malls with a few friends, so of course I spent quite a bit of time taking pictures of all my favorite finds… Are you guys ready for a round of “Things I Didn’t Buy At The Antique Mall” (+ the one thing I did buy)?
You might notice an overarching theme of today’s post: life-sized things, brass things, and things that are both life-sized and brass.
The first treasure I spotted was these stunning pair of brass and marble ibex bookends… I mean, they’re simply 1stDibs-worthy, right?
I seriously debated bring this $8 terracotta head planter/vase home with me…
Okay, a little backstory on this chubby ceramic zebra. I’ve been dying to find an Italian glass zebra figure like this one from Erica at vintagedesignme, but of course when you’re actually looking for something like that, you never have any luck! When I spotted this chunky version, I couldn’t stop cracking up…
It’s the Jonah Hill to Erica’s zebra’s Channing Tatum.
Now begins the parade of life-sized finds.
This life-sized (or possibly larger than life-sized – I’m no duck expert) brass duck was $75 and exceedingly heavy:
If the duck isn’t your waterfowel of choice, there was also a pair of life-sized brass geese, more affordably priced at $50 for both. My friend Sarah told me that she totally could see them fitting in my house… I’ll take that as a compliment!
Do you remember the enormous wicker kangaroo from hearsayandhappiness that I featured a few weeks ago? Meet its BFF, a wicker giraffe that stands nearly 5 feet tall:
This is not the most flattering picture of me (excuse: I got up super early for this antiquing adventure!) but I’m putting it on the internet anyway, because: life-sized sarcophagus.
I got home and showed this picture to Bryan: “Honey, you know how I like to bring things home and paint them white?” And for a hot moment he was seriously convinced I had purchased a life-sized lady sarcophagus. And you know what? He wasn’t even that fazed. I bring home so much crazy weird crap that my husband thought it was within the realm of possibility that I would buy a life-sized lady sarcophagus.
Okay. Who’s ready to see what I did come home with?
My Find:
I guess it really pales in comparison to Queen Tut (as I like to refer to her) above, but I couldn’t leave without these little cactus salt and pepper shakers. After I found them, I walked away for a few minutes and couldn’t get them out of my head, so I went back to pick them up.
Cactus: so hot right now.
They were only $5 and we actually just broke our salt shaker last week, so they were kind of perfect.
I think it’s an unwritten rule that cacti must be paired with pink, so I shot these photos in our bedroom so that I wouldn’t break the universe as we know it. Love them!
The Features:
Alright! Let’s jump into this week’s incredible features – the things you awesome people spotted, scored and shared!
How cool are these deer head drawer pulls Melany (Instagram: m.a.watson) found? She doesn’t have a plan in mind for them yet, but I’m sure whatever she does with them will be fantastic!
I’m totally in love with this dapper fox mug shared by the ever-fabulous Jenn of suite22antiques! Don’t you think your morning coffee would taste approximately 10x better from this handsome guy?
What I wouldn’t give to come across a Craigslist find like this one! Candy (Instagram: candy_habitat2home) scored the two chairs and ottoman for just $40!!! *jaw drop* She’s channeling some serious Emily Henderson with these babies and I am dying of envy!
Lastly, Emily (Instagram: watassa) has been hitting the thrifting jackpot hard lately! Remember her wicker Tito Agnoli chairs I featured last week? This time, she shared this drool worthy Percival Lafer-inspired tufted sofa that I would also bring home in a heartbeat! (Fun fact: I actually spotted its twin on the set of an episode of the show Mr. Robot)
Who else thinks that Emily’s sofa and Candy’s chairs should pair up for the most awesome living room ever?

aaaaaand here we go with similar features again! and i would have gotten that $8 head planter- too cool!
I was so tempted by the planter! But I’ve bought several thrifted planters recently AND I can’t keep plants alive… It’s not a very productive attraction, lol.
Those cacti salt and pepper shakers are so adorable. Such a good find, and perfect timing too!
I always get a kick out of all the neat little finds you pass on. I can’t believe some of the sizes of those brass pieces.
Thanks Trisha! Yeah, if I ever need life-sized brass anything, I know where to go now! It was fun to window shop!
LOVE the head planter!!! Thank you for having me today! Such a fun series! xox
Of course, right after I didn’t buy the head planter, I saw your amazing clay fist… And now I’m like, “Of course I need something terra cotta in my decor. Of course I do!”
Thanks so much for joining us!
I love the salt and pepper shakers! I must find a pair. We have no windows in our kitchen so no plant life. Must fill it with ceramic plants. I would have never known a large brass duck would go for $75. Yikes!
Yes, they would be perfect for you! I’m trying to bring more plants into my decorating… And I’m totally okay if they’re not actually real! 🙂
I’ve never seen a life sized brass duck before! now I want one!
As I’m sitting here recalling the dimensions of the brass duck and comparing them to the dimensions of any ducks I’ve seen in nature, I’m going to say this one was actually 2 or 3 times as big… So for a double or triple-life-sized brass duck, it was probably a steal! 😉
i don’t comment very often but i wanted to let you know how much i enjoy this series, i go to every site and just drool and drool…… queen tut was an awesome thing and i laughed when you told hubs you bought it… i am poor so i live through blogs and yours makes me happy xx
Aw, thank you so much! It’s always so encouraging to hear things like this – I’m so glad you enjoy the series! Thank you so much for your sweet comment!
