Hello, my friends! Can you believe that it’s Thursday already? Anyone else just completely thrown off kilter by the long weekend? (Labor Day weekend, for my readers outside of North America.)
We fit in some more birthday celebrating (you’d better believe I milk that “birthday week” for all it’s worth!) and got together with family and friends… It was a lovely weekend, but it’s crazy how imbalanced I feel for “missing” my regular Monday!
My Thrift Score Thursday Finds:
There are no rooms in our new house that are “finished” – or anything approaching it – just yet, but I love being able to slowly create little pockets of beauty and order throughout, like this sideboard vignette in our dining room.
You got a peek at it a few weeks ago, when I shared my cheese-plate-turned-mini-terrarium display. Since then, I’ve added a few new elements, all recent thrift store finds.
I actually found the champagne silver entwined dolphins mirror on my birthday when I stopped by Goodwill on the way home from lunch with my dad. Embracing my new quest to add all the layers of funk and quirk to my house that I can, I knew it had to come home with me.
At first, I wasn’t sure if these sea creatures were supposed to be fish, or dragons, or dolphins, but a little googling turned up this nearly identical entwined dolphin mirror that retails for over $1800! Whether mine is something special or not, I couldn’t be happier with my $15 find!
I set it on the sideboard with my Birth of Venus art because I adore the way the metallics and carved details interact with each other.
Next up is this fun little topsy turvy vase I found at The Salvation Army for $2 or $2.50. It was bundled together with another glass carafe and at first I thought it was this crazy decanter combination.
Once I got it home, I found an etched signature that pointed me to famous French florist Christian Tortu, and I learned that it’s actually his “Tupi” vase, designed to mimic a spinning top. It’s not insanely valuable, but I love knowing that it’s something just a little bit special!
Finally, I nabbed these twiggy gold candlesticks at another Goodwill store (there are THREE within 15 minutes of me!) for a few dollars each and let them join the party too. I love how rustic they feel!
And there you have it – some recent thrift finds mixed in with some older ones – the table, chairs, and sideboard were all secondhand pieces as well! That mirror is one of my first silver pieces in the mix ever and it made me realize how silly it is to always go with brass or gold… Hopefully you’ll see me branching out into other metallics soon!
Thrift Score Thursday Features:
Here are this week’s features, chosen from the #thriftscorethursday feed on Instagram. Please tell me you spend time browsing the hashtag! You have no idea what fun treasures you miss out on seeing if you don’t!
One of the reasons I love Thrift Score Thursday so much is getting to hear all your wonderful perspectives and stories. Julia (@thericharmedlife) shared that she buys orphaned saucers when she finds them in the hope of one day finding their matching tea cups and reuniting them – and she has even been successful a few times! Isn’t that a beautiful sentiment? Not to mention such lovely china patterns!
I am in love with the finds from Valerie (@valerietylercollection) in this shot! Vintage Navajo pottery, carved horn heron, and that delightful wood carving – so beautifully moody!
I’m telling you, I’m craving the colors and textures of wood BIG TIME lately! I went nuts for these vintage carved figures (with posable arms!) Beck (@thebohemianfleamarket) shared. Get in my life!
And these next two shots are so fun because I think they are basically the definition of heaven for thrifters like us…
Amber (@mamakeavintage) thrifted her way across four states in five days to the tune of this mega thrift haul. Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my keyboard. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an enviable gathering of thrift finds before!

And Jess (@domicile37) just moved and unpacked her decor pieces (the vast majority of which you can safely assume are thrift scores) into this incredible closet of wonders! Oh for five minutes in there with a shopping bag, right you guys?!
