Hello sweet friends! It’s a very special Thrift Score Thursday today – Halloween edition part 1 (!!!) – but before we jump into the spooky goodness, let’s take a peek at some super fun features from the #thriftscorethursday feed!
The Features:
How adorable are these mugs Jamala (@urvintagegirl) found for just 50 cents each? I love the gold detail on the lions!
I cracked up over Karrie’s description of how she spotted this ornate silverware at the thrift store! Yep, I know that moment well! (@heykarrieanne)
Ya know that moment when you’re thrifting, when you find something special and you do a little inner yayyy, and then suddenly a voice behind you “oooooooh, those are greeeat” and a fellow thrifter lingers around you, pretend digging through the shelves… hoping that you might put your found treasures down for a moment… I know these things, I do these things but you bet your sweet butt I threw these beauties in my cart and high-tailed it out of there!
I’m not sure how much nerdier you can get about kitchen utensils, but these are so very Anthro granny wonderful to me!
@love_recycled scored in a major way with this pair of Jonathan Adler-esque perpetual face vases! I need these in my life!
Angie (@angiesroost) shared this absolutely stunning collection of china and carved wooden plates! The pattern mixing possibilities are off the charts!
Thrift Score Thursday: Halloween Edition
This week is our biggest Thrift Score Thursday ever – in addition the your regular hosts (Cassie, Corinna, Trisha and myself) we actually have SIX awesome past guest hosts joining us this week to share oodles of thrifted Halloween inspiration – Colleen from 58 Water Street, Paula from Sweet Pea, Nicole from Design It Vintage, Jess from Domicile 37, Gretchen from Boxy Colonial, and CoCo from The Crowned Goat!
My Finds:
On Monday, I shared the DIY Halloween terrarium that I created for the Aran Sweaters Direct blog using a brass and glass lantern I found at my local Habitat for Humanity Restore (find the tutorial here).
You guys, this terrarium totally changed my perspective on Halloween!
And I just had to extend the creepy-woodland theme a little further down my “new” black and gold leaf credenza…
All the containers and display pieces you see were found at the thrift store! I shared the cake stand for Thrift Score Thursday last fall, and actually had found the glass topper several years earlier – they just so happen to fit together perfectly!
The gold-flecked tarantula is a rare and fabulous arachnid…
Joined by this wistful guy, just chilling with his spidey friends.
So, even though I already had these thrifted pieces on hand, I headed out to the thrift stores to see what other interesting terrarium possibilities I could spot.
I can almost guarantee that at some point you’ll come across one of these ubiquitously 90’s brass and glass light fixtures at a thrift store. This one was only $10 – I paid $15 for mine because it was a little more detailed (hello adorable mini door!).
Isn’t this vintage-style lantern (also $10) the coolest? I was seriously tempted to bring it home, but decided to stock up on good-future-thrifting-karma by leaving it for someone else.
I could definitely see this preserved-rose music box with a Halloween makeover – start by painting the base black. I love music boxes, but they can definitely skew a little spooky, especially when the tune slows to a stop at the end… Shivers.
This vintage plastic decor piece (I’m thinking Syroco, but I forgot to check the back for a stamp) was enormous! It would make a deliciously ornate terrarium, don’t you think? Perhaps with a black feathered raven inside…
You guys, I think might have a new terrarium-obsession! How much is too much?!
Feeling inspired?
We want to see YOUR Halloween-themed thrift finds too!
- Whether it’s costumes thrifted in whole or in part, Halloween decor featuring thrifted elements, or even just the spookiest creepiest thrift finds you spy out at the thrift store, share them using #thriftscorethursday so we can see them!
- NEXT Thursday, 11/5: Two guest hosts will join us in spotlighting your Halloween-themed#thriftscorethursday submissions! Since it’s the Thursday after Halloween, you’ll have plenty of time to snap last-minute costume selfies 😉
- What about those other non-Halloween-related thrift finds? Feel free to continue sharing any and all lucky scores. We just want you know about our big Halloween Feature on 11/5 so you can join in!

oh i love your terrariums! and we had several of the same features this week. and i am obsessed with hey karrie anne’s dining room.
Oh yes, such goodness there! Thanks Cassie!
Brynne, I am loving your terrariums. They are SO cool. I can’t believe you made that one out of a light. Super creative. I hope you have an awesome day and a happy halloween, CoCo
Thank you, sweet CoCo! Now that Halloween is over, I’m sure I’ll be finding new ways to repurpose them!
I truly want those head vases in the worst way. Love them and have been looking for one
ME TOO! They’re just killer… Fingers crossed we both end up finding one (or more!)
Your terrariums are fabulous! I like how you have them decorated for Halloween.
I bought the exact same Syroco piece that you featured at Goodwill over the summer for $1. I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with it and I like your suggestion of putting a crow in it for Halloween.
Thank you so much, Paula! And that’s too fun – I’m so glad you bought it! I would have loved to, but I’m really curtailing the collecting at the moment. So hard to leave things behind! I’d love to see what you end up doing with yours!
Oh man you had such great ideas for those pieces! But your display is already soooo amazing. Creepy, but amazing!
Thanks Corinna! I really enjoyed decorating for Halloween this year, and I usually don’t care for the holiday at all! 🙂
Oh! love the Skeleton in the terrarium, how creepy is that! awesome. What a great idea. 🙂
Thanks Nicole! I think mine are the twins of your cake toppers! 🙂
TERRARIUM ALL THE THINGS! yes!
Haha. Yes. At least one in every room!
Such fun ideas! Love how you turned the light into a terrarium!
Thanks Kristen! I’ve seen the idea floating around on the internet and I’m glad I finally got the chance to make one for myself!
You found ALL the pretty potential-terrariums and as a non-Halloween decorator (or so you said in the past), you really knocked those guys out of the park! Perhaps you could scoop the other pretties up and convert them for every holiday… everything is cuter when it’s mini!
Thanks girl! Yep, I’ve never been much of a Halloween person, but I’m loving this more subtle approach… So fun!
P.S. I already have some Christmas ideas! 😉
Ah love it! That tablescape collection and those face vases (fases if you will) are incredible!
Thanks Amber! Dying for some fases of my own!!!!
Every single one of your features were thrift store GOLD! I have no favorites…I want them all!!!
