Good morning, you guys! Welcome to another week of Thrift Score Thursday and the first one of Fall 2015! Has the weather started to cool off where you live? We haven’t dipped below 90 here yet, and I’m just dying for a crisp fall morning… Nothing like thrifting with a gorgeous blue sky and cool breeze! *sigh*
My Find:
This week, I popped into a new thrift store since I had a few minutes in between errands and was rewarded with this incredible pair of vintage solid brass toothbrush holders.
Silly me, I hadn’t even considered the possibility that toothbrush holders could come in brass… But obviously these were an essential element previously missing from my life!
They are very similar, but not perfectly matched, which I find endearing.
I’m debating over whether to polish them or not, which depends on how I decide to use them. I think the tarnish is a bit off-putting if used for their intended purpose, but I could see these making an awesome organization system for, say, paint brushes or calligraphy pens, couldn’t you? In which case, I love the antiqued appearance of the brass.
Until I decide, I gave them a quick polish with a dab of olive oil. Have you ever noticed how tarnished brass gets a little dull, dusty and lifeless looking? A spot of olive oil on a paper towel is a great way to give it a bit of shine without actually removing the tarnish!
The Features:
Oh boy, do I have some #thriftscorethursday features for you today! Twice as many as usual, in fact. I had no choice – there were just so many incredible finds to choose from!
dvnner shared this picture of Louie the cat testing out a Mid Century teak chair. A) All the tufting in this photo is looking mighty fine. B) I’ve decided that what the #thriftscorethursday feed needs is more cats. Thrift finds and cats are pretty much my favorite thing in the entire world, so I’m asking nicely to see them combined more often!
See, kpick89 got the memo. What’s better than scoring a Barcelona daybed on Craigslist and beating out eight other interested parties? When your cat approves of your design decisions.
Reeves (theweathereddoor) took a $1 thrifted suitcase and legs from a broken but free Mid Century table, worked her magic, and created this impossibly adorable side table!
Chanell (hobnailsalvagedgoods) brought this antique trunk home from her booth and I think everyone’s consensus on Instagram was the same: it’s absolutely perfect in this space! I love the subtle pattern!
Have you ever seen a textile quite as delectable as this estate sale rug found by Sabrina (futuristichuman)? I want to frame this shot and hang it on my wall! But more importantly, I want those to be my toes on my rug in my home…
One day, I hope to be half as cool as Maggie (maggioverbystudios) and her impressive and gorgeous collection of vintage paint-by-numbers! #lifegoals
Brittaney (brittaneykate) scored this vintage Spanish pull-down map on OfferUp for just $40! I haven’t had luck on that app myself, so I love hearing from those who have!
Finally, in honor of Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, which just hit Netflix and which we just rewatched, I simply had to feature these adorable vintage field binoculars Erin (erin_coleen) shared. I’ve been hoping to find a pair of these for the Nautical Naturalist guest bedroom as the perfect finishing touch!

Our guest host this week is the amazing Brittany from White Dog Vintage!
I was introduced to Brittany this spring through her gorgeous kitchen that she made over for the One Room Challenge. I quickly fell in love with her colorful, thrift-loving style and I think you will too!
Be sure to check out the finds and features from Cassie, Corinna & Trisha!
P.S. Are you a blogger who also love thrifty finds? We’d love to have you join us for a week of Thrift Score Thursday! If you’re interested, send me a message!
i missed some of these- love maggie’s collection! and i love your toothbrush holders, too!!!
Good tip about the olive oil! I can’t think of anything more darling than filling those toothbrush holders with artsy tools. 🙂 I also harken back to a time when a solid brass toothbrush holder was just like a regular thing people owned, lol! Thank you so much for inviting me to guest host TST. I had so much fun! Like Cassie, I think I missed a couple of these, so thanks for this thorough round-up!
Who knew brass toothbrush holders were a thing during some era?! Either-way, they look mighty fine in all their tarnished glory!
Maybe we should encourage pets in general- iguanas, puppies, etc. they all make pieces look lived in.
loving all the cats and I need that daybed
I secretly hated Brittany for a while after seeing her kitchen… but look at all these thrift scores! Those brass toothbrush holders are amazing. I’m thoroughly jealous!
So glad to learn you are in Dallas as well! It seems like you are a thrifting expert! I would love to go on a thrifting expedition one day!!
So many good finds! Kudos to the creativity of the suitcase table! Adorable!
I agree! I’m filing that genius suitcase table away for future inspiration!
