You guys, I’m sitting here trying to wrap my mind around the fact that we’re halfway through September and we’ve already been here in our new home for three and a half months. And it really is finally feeling like home, and not just a gathering place for a mishmash of vintage furniture and moving boxes!
I’ve made some progress in our front room lately, and I can’t wait to share all those details with you! (If you watch my Instagram Stories, you might have caught a sneak peek.)
For today, I’ll just share this little seating area I set up in there with my DIY Ikea-hack club chairs, some thrifted pillows, and this brass drum table I scooped at The Salvation Army this week…
The finish is “well worn”, to put it nicely. There are some pretty major scratches and some of the brass plating is peeling up, but I like my home to feel “lived in,” and I just couldn’t complain at the $20 price tag!
These days, when I’m buying something for me (and not to re-sell), I tend to purchase first and research later, so I didn’t even investigate this tag underneath the table until the next day. For some reason, “Habitat” wasn’t ringing a bell… Even though I actually had another table from Habitat in the past, this stacked brass coffee table!
It turns out, this brass drum table is actually from the same designer as my old coffee table – Paul Mayen – and similar pieces can be found at sky-high prices on 1stDibs!
So I will happily overlook a few cosmetic issues! Stack a few books on top of the worst of the peeling areas and scatter some accessories like my recently-thrifted malachite trinket box and these fun lacquered floral coasters I just picked up for $0.69.
This baby practically glows, it reflects so much sunlight, and I just love it!
Thrift Score Thursday Features:
On to the features from the #thriftscorethursday feed on Instagram! Each week, I’m delighted at the way our hashtag party grows and grows – I have such a wonderful time getting to see all your wild and wonderful finds, but it does make it so hard to pick just a small handful of features!
Although I think I will always be a color lover, neutrals are definitely speaking to my soul lately as well! Look at all these beautiful textures in this thrifted vignette from Jo (@jmwearing)! MCM desk lamp + carved wooden guy + bamboo mirror + little pot with – is that duck feet? So interesting and also so soothing!

You guys, I don’t know what exactly it is with me and hippopotamuses (hippopotami?), but I just can’t seem to resist them when they show up in the #thriftscorethursday feed! Check out these happy little hippo and elephant brass trinket boxes Mike & Angie (@brass_attics) found!

More neutrals I just can’t shake! I’m absolutely obsessed with @reincarnatedvintage‘s dining room! The classic marble-topped chest of drawers, that sculptural driftwood, those free-form candlesticks, that glam mirror, the African art – I’m dying over all of it!
As you well know, the little thrift finds can be just as exciting and beautiful as the big ones! Jessica (@honeynhydrangea) found this delicate gold leaf trinket dish for $1 and discovered a stamp underneath dated to 1948!

I have to say, this is one of my new favorite Thrift Score Thursday features! Alexandra (@nostalgic.moon.vintage) came up with this brilliant way to show off her new vintage portrait find! Love this fellow’s smirk – he knows he’s a catch!
Finally, these chairs shared by Katie (@rus_in_urbe_home) literally stopped me in my [virtual] tracks when I saw them! At first, I thought the bases were brass cylinders like my table, but they are apparently actually a glossy mustard wood. Either way, I wish they would get in my life!
