Hey friends! Have you started hauling out your Christmas decorations yet?
I’ll let you in on a little secret… I pulled mine out the Monday before Thanksgiving! Holidays come quickly in the blogging world, and I knew I would need the head start to have everything ready for this week’s Christmas tours!
Today, I’ll be sharing my colorful and eclectic Christmas tree with you, as part of the wonderful “My Home Style” hop hosted by Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living. If you’re stopping by from Pocketful of Posies, or another stop on the way, welcome to The Gathered Home – my little corner of the internet chronicling the joys of finding and making.

White Christmas Tree
I’ll let you in on another little secret and me and my Christmas tree style: I love to riff on the classics. I’ve had a white Christmas tree for four Christmases now, and I still love the way it makes the perfect backdrop for my collection of colorful and shiny ornaments!

I was so excited to put the tree up in our library, in front of the one big window at the front of the house! However, our new home has much higher ceilings than our first house, which made my 6′ tree feel a little diminutive.
So I used some white garland to frame the window and continued my decorations on the garland. It helps fill the space and gives the illusion of a taller, grander tree! I just added three small screws just below the crown molding and wrapped the wire branches of the garland around them to hold it in place.
I used a plaid tablecloth as a tree skirt and I love the strong green color! I found this gorgeous throw blanket on Amazon that’s really similar.
Multi Color Glass Balls
Multi color glass ball ornaments are a Christmas staple around here! I pick them up every chance I get, in every color of the rainbow. Most of mine have been acquired through thrifting and/or pilfering from my parents’ attic. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is – if I spot a box at a decent price, I snap it up and save it for the next Christmas!
Some are new and shiny, some are vintage and spotted with age (which I love). If pressed, I’d have to say my favorites are the candy-colored pinks and purples.
DIY Touches
It wouldn’t be a Gathered Christmas tree without a few DIY projects!
I have a huge soft spot for these mini sunburst mirror ornaments I made last year:
I love the Mid-Century Modern flair they add to the tree! They were so easy to whip up – just toothpicks and mini craft mirrors – but the way they reflect the tree’s lights is really something magical. Get the details here.
And these DIY mini abstract art canvases are my contribution this year!
I chose paint colors to complement the rest of my ornaments, and added some gold leaf, of course! Get the tutorial here.
Finally, this is actually the first year our tree has had a tree topper. (Remember what I said about shorter ceilings in our old living room?) It definitely felt like it needed a little something extra this year, so I whipped up a larger version of the mini sunburst mirror ornaments to place on top.
Instead of tiny 1″ mirrors, I used 2″ craft mirrors, and bamboo skewers instead of toothpicks. The finished star is about 11″ in diameter and just rests on the topmost branches.
Gathered Treasures:
And now we come to the heart and soul of the tree – eclectic treasures gathered, gifted, found over the years.
Like these iridescent teardrop icicles I always begged to hang on the tree when I was little:
And this glittered glass Santa I liberated from my parents’ Christmas stash:
And we can’t forget Dancer, who has been my very favorite Christmas ornament of all time for as far back as I can remember:
I love when I come across colorful glass ornaments out thrifting – this petite penguin and snowman were fun finds this fall:
My husband Bryan and I have both taught music for years, so these brass and copper guitar and piano ornaments from my mom for our first Christmas hold a special place in my heart:
Finally, I love these shiny mirrored gold acrylic fox ornaments I found at IKEA several years ago. Sadly, they are no longer available… I scooped them up on an after-Christmas clearance for $0.60 per pack! But consider this a PSA to hit those end-of-season clearance sections, okay?

I love a white tree and yours looks great! My minis and I are going to be putting ours up in my home office this weekend… Have a Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much, Shelley! Merry Christmas to you too, and have fun decorating your tree this weekend!
there is just something about a white tree with colorful ornaments! gorgeous!
It’s just my favorite! I’m not sure I can ever quit it, even though I’m tempted to snag a larger, traditional green tree after the holidays… Maybe I’ll just have to do both next year! 😀
Oooh girl! That tree is perfect! I love all the little DIY touches (btw…they look totally store-bought). Your collage is beautiful—I totally pinned that! On a side note, where did you find white garland? Also, I just noticed how long your hair is!
Thank you so much, Jessica! I found the white garland at a thrift store a few weeks ago – it was just meant to be!
And I think I definitely need a new blogging pic – the one I’ve been using is about four years old, and yes – my hair is about two feet longer now! 😀
I love a white tree too! It looks magical when lit up. I love the garland! And the tree topper is really cool!
Thank you Emy! I love Mid Century design, even though I don’t have much of it in my home – so the sunbursts on the tree are a fun way to bring it in!
Beautiful! Simply beautiful!
Thanks girl! You need a white tree too!!!
Also, the crazy person pinning all these beautiful images is me
😀 😀 😀
Byrnne, your white tree is almost as adorable as your calico kitty! Love you style!!
Thank you so much, Caroline! Midna kept sneaking into the photos – she is really fascinated with the bright lights and colors on the tree! 🙂
I love your white tree!! The starburst mirrors and art ornaments are so pretty and look perfect with all of your colorful ornamental balls. The garland totally did the trick for framing the space. Beautiful job! Oh! I have to have that piano ornament!
Thank you Kathy! Oh yes – that piano ornament would be just perfect for you! My mom originally found them at a little shop in her town, so I was really happy to find the same one online!
This is so darn perfect! I am usually afraid of color in my holiday decor, but you’ve made me want to go buy a bunch of brightly colored ornaments. Such a happy, beautiful tree and space.
Thank you so much, Monica! You do bold and glam so well, I’m sure you could rock some bright colors too!
I love your white tree. The colored ornaments really pop. You have created a fun and festive tree that I am sure makes all your guest smile. Great job!
Thank you so much! The bright colors are definitely perfect for us! 🙂
SO pretty Brynne and I also enjoy seeing the colorful books in the background and the kitty on the arm rest. Merry Christmas
Thank you Julia! Merry Christmas to you too! (I’m not sure why your comments have been eaten by my spam filter lately, so I’m so sorry I haven’t seen them until today!)
Love the colors that you’ve used on your white tree. Don’t you love having a white tree? We have one too this year and everything just pops off it.
You have a great blog. 🙂
Thank you so much, Stacey! I do just adore white Christmas trees! They feel so retro and modern to me! Every time I think about trying out a green tree, I keep coming back to how much I love the colorful ornaments on the white!
Okay, this is stunning, and I want to do this myself one day!
Thank you so much! I’ll always have a soft spot for white Christmas trees, but yours is just too gorgeous as well!
When I saw your peek on IG I was so intrigued and I am completely in awe of this tree. Fabulous job Brynne. Truly gorgeous.
You are too sweet, Stephanie! Thank you so much, friend!
Your bright white tree is so dreamy, Brynne! I love all of the colorful ornaments against the neutral background. It really makes them pop!
I absolutely love the how your colorful vintage ornaments pop off your white tree. And making the whole thing grander with that garland was genius!
Love your white tree with all its colorful, shiny ornaments so much! And I loved the close up tour of some of the other special ones, too–they kind of get lost in the whole tree pics, so it’s nice they’re getting their turn in the spotlight here 🙂
Ooooh your tree is so glamorous and fun! I really love all the multicolour glass ornaments you used – I love a bright tree!
Your eclectic tree is stunning! All those colors are just beautiful mixed with your diy ornaments! Pinnin
