Updated: DIY Accordion Sconces

April 20, 2015 by Brynne 21 Comments

Last month, I shared the tutorial for these DIY Ikea Hack Accordion Sconces with you guys but stated that along with the bedroom walls, they would be receiving a new color soon…

Bam! Matte black!

I wanted something a little more in line with the bedroom’s new decorating direction – a little more sophisticated, a little more glam. The other day I finally got around to giving the sconces a few coats of their new color.

At first, I grabbed a can of glossy black spray paint in the garage only to discover that it was mostly empty. I hate stopping in the middle of a project to run to the store, so I grabbed a can of chalkboard spray paint (affiliate link) I found in my paint stash. It ended up being the perfect choice because I absolutely love the smooth, matte finish!

I love these sconces so much more in black than I did before, especially since they echo the bedroom’s black doors. Slowly but surely, I think this room is headed in the right direction!

And I think Tina agrees…

I love chalkboard paint used in non-chalkboard applications :). One of my favorite pinterest-found bathrooms is painted with chalkboard paint.

I think I can say that she does like the bedroom so much more in pink – she's spending a lot more time napping in here now! 😉 Thank you Kimberly!

I love the matte black with the pink, gold, and wood tones in there. Don't be shocked when you get home and it all disappeared.
