Oh my word. It’s the first Thrift Score Thursday of 2016! What in the world?! Where did the last several weeks go?!
I hope you all had an absolutely wonderful Christmas and New Year’s! I know I’ve been a little radio silent – part of that was simply enjoying time with family and friends, and another part is due to the fact that we’re in a bit of a holding pattern with the move that I so certainly announced weeks ago…
Quite honestly, it’s a bit frustrating and motivation-zapping, so I’ve mostly been watching TV and playing video games and even dabbling with upping my makeup game (sometime I’m terrible at!). Things feel a little off for me, over here, while I’m trying to figure out this whole Limbo dance. But I’m trusting that there are good things in store for 2016, but I need to be patient to see how exactly they will play out!
One thing that never fails to cheer me up is Thrift Score Thursday, so I’m very happy you’re joining me for 2016’s very first #thriftscorethursday party!
The Facts:
Simply post a picture of any recent thrifty find on Instagram using #thriftscorethursday!
- You can share any thrifty finds with us – whether they hail from a thrift store, Craigslist, estate sale, garage sale, side of the road, or apartment dumpster! The fun, the funny, the awesome, the odd – this hashtag party is open to all!
- Feel free to use #thriftscorethursday any day of the week! We’ll be keeping up with the hashtag all week long to find our favorites for the following Thursday.
- Each week, Trisha from Black and White Obsession, Cassie from Primitive and Proper, Corinna from A Designer At Home and I (plus a special weekly guest host!) will pick a few favorite thrift scores to feature! So please note that by linking up with#thriftscorethursday, you are giving us permission to share your finds via social media or on our blogs.
- Please note that we can only see photos shared by public accounts, so if you have a private Instagram account and we haven’t been showering your finds with love, it’s simply because we aren’t able to see them.
The Features:
You might notice a common thread in today’s four features – gold and brass forever! A little glitz, glam and sparkle just feels perfect to celebrate a new year, right?
Check out this beautiful brass bird sculpture Gretchen (@boxycolonial) was lucky enough to receive for Christmas! Mads props to Gretchen’s brother and sis-in-law – can I get on your gift list for next year? 😉
Elizabeth Rose (@elizabethrosedesigns_) shared her gorgeous bar cart setup, including those vintage black and gold glasses that I would be ecstatic to find myself any day!
A French press is my favorite way to prepare coffee and ours is a permanent fixture on our kitchen counter, so you can imagine how much I adore this gold one Jennifer (@jenc184) thrifted – brand new with tags, too!
Britt (@brittkingery) is always such an inspiration! I love the way she’s styled her bar cart in this shot. That mid-century pitcher/carafe is amazing, isn’t it?
My Finds:
As much as I enjoy buying thrift treasures for myself, I also enjoy occasionally sharing a few things I didn’t buy, but thought were noteworthy enough to photograph for posterity. After all, I can’t buy every shiny thing that catches my eye, so “take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but [regretful tear drops]” seems to be a good policy for certain non-essential finds.
Like this gorgeous marbled glass lamp, which was $15, I believe. Lamps are my weakness – I always spot one or two to drool over, but I really don’t have any more room for them at the moment!
I loved the bamboo detailing on this brass tray ($9?). I think it would make such a great centerpiece, filled with river stones and candles (like my DIY succulent rock garden), or Christmas ornaments.
Wait, why did I leave this behind?! Oh yeah, it was $30… I’m still wishing I had bought it though, because I can’t stop picturing those colors in my living room. Crap, now I’m really regretting this one, and it’s long gone because this picture is a few weeks old.
Another one I kind of wish I had bought… I think this owl umbrella stand was $15. And it’s just so adorable and unique, right? I think I’d like it even more if it were a solid glossy white – it would be a little more chic and a little less cutesy.
Alright, let’s hear it… What am I an absolute fool for leaving behind? Or what would you have taken home with you?

This week, we’re welcoming Crystal from Clear Cut Crystal Designs as our guest host!
Be sure to check out the finds and features from Cassie & Corinna!
P.S. Are you an avid blogger + Instagrammer who also loves thrifty finds? We’d love to have you join us for a week of Thrift Score Thursday! If you’re interested, you can apply right here!
LOVE that elephant! and i totally missed most of these- i think the long break threw me off my game! i LOVE that french press, those vintage glasses, gretchen’s sculpture, and that mcm carafe! so much goodness!!! and i feel the same about makeup and need help but at my age it’s embarrassing. to go into a store and say, “help! i have no clue!”
I’m right there with you! So I’ve been reading a lot of online tutorials. Basically I’m just trying to be a bit more put together… Call it my new year’s resolution – if I can’t paint walls right now, I’ll paint my face (and “primer” is even involved!)
😉 😀
Love that bar cart set-up! And really would love to have that lamp
Oh yes – I could definitely see that lamp paired with your marbled curtains!
That carafe!
Thanks so much, Brynne! And I used to have an elephant like that! I can’t even remember what happened to it; I think I gave it up in a move sometime. So tragic 🙁
You’re so welcome Gretchen! That is tragic – maybe we’ll luck out and stumble across another one sometime, reasonably priced, of course! 🙂
that green bar is maybe the coolest thing I have seen lately. Great picks this week!
Britt actually DIYed the green bar cart (Here is her post on it: https://whitedogvintage.wordpress.com/2015/09/16/diy-ikea-bar-cart-with-wood-top/) And I agree – it’s gorgeous!
I REALLY like that lamp. Really like it. But youll find awesome stuff again later when you can thrift just because 😉
I can absolutely see it working perfectly in your house! If it had been emerald green, I really might have been persuaded… 😉
Happy New Year! I’m totally with you on the holding pattern. We are hopefully moving this summer. I’m trying so hard to hold back on furniture purchases. Also, I’m a sucker for all things gold and brass, so I’m drooling over your picks this week. Good job!
Yes, it’s definitely a test of patience, right? Every time I consider buying something, I ask myself if I really want to have to pack it up soon! 😀
Thank you for guest hosting with us this week, Crystal!
So much gold-y goodness! In love with that lamp though Brynne and lilac is not a colour I would ever consider but wow, yeah. Gorgeous. Also, the coffee press, the carafe and those glasses – YUM. Welcome back and good luck with the move!! xx
