Hello dear friends! Welcome to the last #thriftscorethursday of 2015!!!
The Thrift Score Thursday hosts are going to be taking off the next two weeks to spend the holidays with our families, but we’ll see you back here bright and early the first Thursday of 2016, January 7th!
So let me wish you a very Merry Thriftmas and we’ll dive right into today’s party!
The Facts:
Here’s how to join in on the Thrift Score Thursday fun! Remember, you’ll have the next few weeks to share your best thrift scores over the holiday season… I fully expect a feed full of treasures the next time I take a peek!
Simply post a picture of any recent thrifty find on Instagram using #thriftscorethursday!
- You can share any thrifty finds with us – whether they hail from a thrift store, Craigslist, estate sale, garage sale, side of the road, or apartment dumpster! The fun, the funny, the awesome, the odd – this hashtag party is open to all!
- Feel free to use #thriftscorethursday any day of the week! We’ll be keeping up with the hashtag all week long to find our favorites for the following Thursday.
- Each week, Trisha from Black and White Obsession, Cassie from Primitive and Proper, Corinna from A Designer At Home and I (plus a special weekly guest host!) will pick a few favorite thrift scores to feature! So please note that by linking up with#thriftscorethursday, you are giving us permission to share your finds via social media or on our blogs.
- Please note that we can only see photos shared by public accounts, so if you have a private Instagram account and we haven’t been showering your finds with love, it’s simply because we aren’t able to see them.
My Find:
Spoiler alert: It’s brass. Who’s surprised?
I found these brass reindeer head bookends at Goodwill and I paid a little too much for them… Or rather, I would have if I didn’t have a $10-off coupon (from filling up my stamp card).
They were $12 each, so I was going to move on and live without until I noticed that the chippy paint finish wasn’t intentionally chippy at all. Rather, someone had spray painted the pair white at some point and the white paint was starting to flake off in places… (Do you see where I’m going with this?)
…They were actually brass underneath!
It looks like a pair of brass reindeer head bookends like these can go for anywhere from $60 to $200 online, so I started to feel a little better about spending $15 for the pair and then putting in a little elbow grease to remove the paint.
I’ll be sure to share what products/procedures work the best for removing spray paint from brass! (Any tips?) I can’t wait to see these beauties restored to their original golden glory!
The Features:
I just can’t get enough of vintage and thrifted Christmas treasures… I don’t want the holidays to end!
Check out this stunning vintage wrapping paper Danavee (@thisvintagegrove) shared! I especially adore the floral print!
Oh my! Would you have seen the potential in these Christmas village houses Debbie (@refreshrestyle) found? I’m in awe at how perfect they look after she gave them a clean, snowy white makeover (get all the details on her blog)!
And how awesome is Diana’s (@diana_donjuan) Christmas-fied cactus, with that cute little pompom addition? Plus it looks like she lives right down the highway from me, so I’m excited to follow along with her finds!
I am swooning, just swooning over this collection of vintage glass ornaments shared by Meg (@megvandorn). You’d better believe I’m making it my goal to collect as many one day!
Have a beautiful day, friends – eat some Christmas cookies and treat yourself to an extra thrift score or two for me!

ooh–the vintage ornaments! love them! and I can’t wait to see your bookends restored to their original glory 🙂
I bet this technique would work on reindeer heads. http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/how-to/intro/0,,20055784,00.html
Brynne…those reindeers are golden. You sound like me when it comes to prices at that thrift store. On a side note, you should open a shop! You have the coolest collection of thrifted items and some of the hottest brass items that I have seen.
Go back to the thrift store and get an old crockpot to use only for paint stripping! It removes the paint without harsh chemicals.

The deer are great! And I kind of like them white!
How lucky are you!! I really hope you find a simple and non-abrasive way to save those pretty, pretty reindeer!
Me too! I’ve been so lazy over the break, but I have a few things to try!
Every single time I come to your blog I swear I’m going to get back into thrifting. Take me with you!!!!!
Yes, let’s set up another thrifting date! 🙂
