Hello dear friends, and welcome to another wonderful week of Thrift Score Thursday! I can’t wait to see what treasures you’ve been thrifting lately – browsing the #thriftscorethursday feed throughout the week is always a highlight!
My Find:
I’ve had my eyes out for a vintage federal mirror ever since I spotted one on Craigslist at the beginning of the year for $40. While a fairly reasonable price, it was just too expensive for me (and 45 minutes away, to boot) so I saved the listing and had to content myself with checking it every now and then to see if the price dropped (it never did) or if it sold.
So imagine my excitement when I walked into Goodwill recently and found this for $16…
It’s molded plastic, made by Syroco and stamped 1959 on the back. The shiny gold finish looks completely brand new, like it just came out of the box! And of course the convex mirror is ridiculously fun – our cat Tiny Tina was completely mesmerized by it at first.
Ever since I spotted the original mirror on Craigslist, I knew I wanted to hang one over the vintage post office box in our living room next to the front door that holds shoes and serves as a drop point for keys, mail, etc. Naturally, this prompted a little rearranging and I was practically forced to incorporate a few other recent thrift finds in our entryway as well.
We had been using a wooden bowl to hold keys by the door, but it inevitably ended up collecting other clutter as well. I found this little brass house hook for just $1.29 and hung it up with command strips that I cut down to fit. Now the keys hang conveniently by the door and the other clutter will have to be dealt with on the spot rather than simply dropped off.
And finally, this white ceramic rabbit candle holder originally hailed from Anthropologie, but was just $4 at a local thrift store!
I would be lying if I said this is the way the entry is going to stay forever (like, do you know me at all?), but for now I’m loving this little entryway vignette! You probably recognize the books and little potted (faux) grass from other pictures I’ve shared, but that’s exactly why I try to only buy things that I absolutely love – because then they work no matter where I move them around in the house.
The Features:
A brass Pegasus? Say no more! Besides this gorgeous photo, Sandra (Instagram: vintaushop) shared the cutest story about how her daughter was upset the unicorn was missing its horn.
I just love these bold, delicious colors in this rug Emily (Instagram: watassa) scored at the thrift store for… wait for it… $12! So good!
Have you ever seen anything like this giant brass anchor Anne at Planting Sequoias (Instagram: annie88b) found at a garage sale for $10?! (You guys are seriously making my local thrift stores and garage sales seem too spendy!) I love her post on her find where she addresses the very valid question: What do you do when you’ve scored the ultimate thrift score?
Speaking of ultimate thrift scores, I am just swooning, dying over this gorgeous antique carved swan sofa that the ladies at 2 Bees in a Pod (Instagram: 2beesinapod) shared.
You’re not even going to believe this – I mean, I’m going to tell you, but I think you’ll tell me to shut up.
Okay, here goes… It was FREE…
Can you even?! Of course, it was originally in pieces and needed to be lovingly reassembled and reupholstered, but what a worth-while project! Way to go, ladies!
(P.S. That mirror was a yard sale score! See more of this stunning living room right here.)

2 bees in a pod really nailed it! Way to go! I’ve got some nice scores, too, but darned if my little camera would do them justice… now if only some kind person would leave a nice camera on my doorstep…
I hope you’ll share them anyway! If you can bring them out into sunlight or get strong natural light in the room, that always helps – my old camera used to take absolutely terrible photos indoors but the outdoor ones in brighter light always looked so much better 🙂 And yes, that room from 2 Bees in a Pod is absolutely incredible!
That mirror is amazing! I never would have known that it was plastic if you hadn’t spilled the beans. What an awesome find.
Thanks for having me this week as a guest host!
Paula
Thank you Paula! It’s really hard to tell, but then you flip the mirror over and it’s hollow on the other side – too funny! 😀 Thanks so much for joining us again!

Thanks Cassie! It’s one of the best feelings ever to find something on my thrifting wishlist 🙂

I’m so happy you were able to track down your mirror! Really enjoyed how it prompted an impromptu mini-makeover.
Ohmygosh, I cannot believe that sofa was scored for free. Those swan legs are in such good condition!!
I love the swan legs! I need swan legs in my life now! Who knew? 🙂
Yes that rug!!! Swoon like a million times. Your house hook is awesome too! So quirky and sweet!
