Thrift Score Thursday 56

March 19, 2015 by Brynne 25 Comments

I did not strike out at the thrift store this week!

How’s that for a #thriftscorethursday opening line? After many fruitless treks to the thrift store, I finally spotted a few things worth taking home, and the best part is that it was 50% off day at Goodwill!

Actually, if I had known that ahead of time, I probably would have stayed home since it can get pretty cutthroat during sale days at the thrift store! And the shelves were pretty well picked over by the time I stopped by. Luckily, I spotted the gleam of brass behind a few other objects…

What, you don’t have a brass peppermill just chilling on your mantel with a collection of vintage books? So weird.

It has these really great engraved designs on it, as well as “Atlas Pepper Mill Imports Made in Greece”, which proved very useful in discovering that my little 99 cent purchase retails for $76 online! (Although, affiliate link, you can snag it on Amazon for just $47.15)

While it makes for a lovely knickknack, I was also happy to hear that it’s high-quality and very functional! Expect to see this piece starring in my kitchen as soon as I get around to tackling that room… oh, maybe in 2020?

The Features

Ready for this week’s #thriftscorethursday features?

I fell so hard for this gorgeous silhouette gallery wall shared by Maggie from Maggie Overby Studios (Instagram: maggieoverbystudios)! She’s collected these silhouettes over time from flea markets and thrift stores in Germany – just incredible!

I am obsessed with this collection of plates from Emily from The Anatomy of Design (Instagram: anatomyofdesign)! The coral, navy, cream and gold are such a heavenly color combination! And this photo is impeccable!

This thrifted candlestick makeover from Kris at Driven by Decor (Instagram: drivenbydecor) is divine. So elegant and modern with just a few coats of black paint! Doesn’t this make you want to coat everything in matte black?

Okay, are you ready to have your mind blown by this last feature? Prepare to pick you jaw up off the floor…

Pam from Simple Details (Instagram: pamsimpledetails) shared THE thrift score of the year – this enormous, fantastic, drool-worthy mirror she found on Craigslist! Are you following Pam yet? If not, hurry to go do so! She is fabulous!

That might be a tough act to follow, but the beauty of #thriftscorethursday is that we get to celebrate all sorts of treasures together – from little brass pepper mills to gigantic ornate mirrors! So large or small, we want to see what you’ve been finding lately!

That peppermill is quite the looker. It's all part of the thrill of the hunt when you practically steal those things and then they're worth a bunch. The markings are such a sweet touch!

Gosh I remember spying that mirror thinking "feature this baby" but it slipped my mind.

Lovely, lovely finds! I was instantly drawn to the plate collection, as I've been an avid vintage dish collector for quite some time!

Hi, I'm Kim, and new to #thriftscorethursday. I have so much to share with you all in the future! But for now, I've started with a gorgeous little lamp that made me jump for joy when I saw it.

That mirror is to die for, but what really gets me smiling is the gallery wall of silhouettes. There is something childlike and whimsical about silhouettes….I am just drawn to their simple beauty.

I got quite excited when I saw this! I have an almost identical peppermill (slightly different engraving and it says made in Germany on the bottom. I got it from the inlaws who used to use it as a coffee grinder, believe it or not! 😛 It makes a better pepper mill although it's easy to overdose on the generous amount it dispenses! Beware, I have had guests over season their meals more than once 😀

So fun! I saw online that they could be used as coffee grinders too… Multi-purpose 🙂 Good to know about the pepper-overdose possibility – I'll be sure to watch out for that! 🙂
