Hey you guys! How has your week been? Mine has been pretty low-key, for the first time in a while, and I’ve really been enjoying the lull.
Plus, this past weekend involved one of my favorite thrift scores ever – something I’ve had on my “thrifting white whale” list for quite some time…
I’ve had my heart set on an emerald green velvet sofa for years, but have had exactly zero luck getting my hands on one that was remotely within my price range. It’s just not one of those things that pops up on Craigslist all the time, you know? For several months last year I combed through sofas on Craigslist daily and found only two sofas that semi-fit the bill, both well outside of what I was hoping to spend, especially for something that wasn’t everything I had hoped and dreamed.
So imagine my surprise when, on Valentine’s Day, I walked into a thrift store I hadn’t visited in at least six months and spotted this sofa. I practically leaped over a row of side tables and chairs to reach it and threw myself across the seat (literally) to a) test out its comfy-ness and b) prevent anyone else from walking away with it (Brynne’s thrifting logic). I did a quick check for holes, tears, smells and broken zippers before dialing Bryan on the phone to ask/inform him about my dream sofa find and convince him of its worthiness/absolute necessity.
Isn’t she elegant? I just love those deep rolled arms and the long single seat cushion! And you guys, this sofa is ridiculously comfortable, which is something that’s been terribly lacking in my last few sofa acquisitions.
Now. Let’s not talk about what this means for my living room or my current sofa, the tufted leather one (that still needs legs)… Let’s just enjoy the silky smooth green velvet. And visualize some new turned legs and some funky throw pillows. Mkay?
So you might have noticed, I’m trying out a new format for #thriftscorethursday – jumping right into the party up front and saving the business for the end of the post!
Are you read for this week’s features?
Alexia & Tracey from 2 Sisters 2 Houses (Instagram: 2sisters2houses) shared this awesome gold federal eagle mirror score! I’ve been pining over a similar one on my local Craigslist recently (I’m cheap and don’t want to pay anywhere near what they’re asking), so of course I’m in love with their find!
Stephanie (Instagram: lepetitmoose) has the coolest story behind her thrift score! Apparently this is an original, signed photograph taken in Vietnam by artist Julia Fullerton-Batten, whose work is now part of the National Portrait Gallery in London’s collection!
Last week, Shavonda from SG Style (Instagram: sgardnerstyle) was live-‘gramming all the fab thrift scores she was running across out and about (follow her for all sorts of incredible style posts!) and this is what she came home with. I’m just loving this whole vignette and the way all her finds play together so well!
I had to include these two updates – check out the way that copper kettle polished up and the use she found for that gorgeous indigo textile! I love seeing thrift finds in their new homes/purposes!

Hi Bonnie,
I gave the sofa a good smell test first of all, then pulled up all the cushions and looked for evidence of bugs while at the thrift store. I was pretty satisfied it was bug-free and just gave it a detailed vacuum once I got it home, but you’re right – it’s sooooo important to be careful not to bring home any unwelcome guests with secondhand furniture!
Thankfully I haven’t had to deal with that, but I do keep a sharp eye out for signs!
