This post was so much fun to pull off! I’ve switched the blog’s header and my profile back to normal, but here is a screenshot of how it looked yesterday (click image for zoom-able full-size):
Happy Tuesday, you guys! I am really excited about today’s post! Like, I’ve stayed up late and spent days preparing and writing today’s post… and I’m thrilled and a little nervous to make a small announcement about this here blog…
By now, you probably know that I’m a bit of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. Well, “fan” is hardly a strong enough word – multiply that times obsessed, and then you’re getting a little closer to the truth. At the insistence of my friend Megan, I began watching BtVS (abbreviations are so cool, right?) over Christmas break and devoured all seven seasons on Netflix within two weeks, to the intense amusement of my husband.
You guys, Buffy changed my life.
This has been brewing for a while, but today I’m ready to unveil some changes around here… If you’re viewing this on mobile or in an RSS feed or email, trust me, you are definitely going to want to click over to the actual site for this.
I’m excited to present: The Gathered Home & Buffy – a blog about home décor & vampire slaying!

I looked in vain for a blog that would combine my two favorite interests, but my search was fruitless.
So I’ve decided to become that blog.
There will still be all the awesome DIY projects and home décor inspiration you’ve come to love from The Gathered Home, but with a little twist… We’re talking Buffy inspired crafts, room moodboards, cocktail recipes… the list goes on! Even if you aren’t a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan (why not though?!), I’m sure you’ll still appreciate the new direction.
Put a bird on it? Soooo over.
Put a stake in it. Chic and daring!
So allow me to introduce The Gathered Home & Buffy’s newest series…

To kick things off here at The Gathered Home & Buffy, I whipped up a charming DIY art project with one of my favorite BtVS quotes from one of my favorite characters (Spike… enough said.)
Come one, vampires, rrrr, nasty! Let’s annihilate them. For justice, and for… the safety of puppies, and Christmas, right? Let’s fight that evil! Let’s kill something! Oh, come on!
I love this little motivational speech and I use it whenever I can, so I decided to turn it into some DIY wall art to hang in my office for whenever I need a little extra inspiration!

This project couldn’t have been easier!
I went to the craft store and purchased two things:

A 12” square black canvas and a pack of “thickers” in lovely 3D metallic gold (these come in all sorts of styles and colors though, so the sky is the limit in this project!) – around $10 with a 40% off one item coupon, but if you snag these individually at 50% off sales, this can be a seriously cheap project!
I decided to summarize the quote a little so it would fit on the canvas, plus I really like the cadence of the shortened version.
Then I planned out the letters on the clear plastic packaging the stickers came in, so I could place it over the canvas and use it to figure out my spacing.
It was quick and easy – a few minutes later, I had this adorable DIY wall art to inspire me to go out and kick butt for the sake of all things good in the world!

I love the bit of whimsy this adds to my budding office gallery wall!

In other news, I’ve been trying to figure out the perfect finishing touch to add to the living room…
The wall behind the Eames(style) chair has been sitting bare for a while.

Well, I’ve finally found the perfect addition.

A LIFESIZE CARDBOARD CUTOUT OF SPIKE!!!
Just £24.99… Granted, that does not include shipping, but that’s seriously still a steal for such a large and room-defining piece of art! I can’t believe how perfectly it goes with the other black accents in the living room. After I order this, I can consider the living room mostly finished. I can’t wait!
I’m so excited about the new direction this blog is taking, and I hope you are too!

April Fool's!
Hehe 😉
LOL
Bahaha! Girl you ROCK! I especially adore the extra effort on the blog updates!!
I knew you would appreciate that! 🙂 Thanks Trisha!
Bwaaahaha! All fooling aside here my friend, I'm one of those strange stay-at-home moms addicted to vampire stories.
You put so much effort into this post and I LOVE IT!
Oh, cross my heart, the Buffy-obsessed part is absolutely 100% true, and I had the time of my life with this post because I got to be my silly vampire-loving self here! I'm so glad you appreciate the effort 🙂
HILARIOUS! love the dedication level with a new picture and logos too 🙂
Thank you! I spent way more time preparing this post than probably even my most involved DIY projects, lol!
Oh my gosh. I just love you. Seriously this is the best! Love that you updated the header and everything. Perfection.
Aw, thanks Alexis! I had SO freaking much fun getting this ready! 🙂
This is amazing. I can't wait to see what spike comes up with! So cool that you husband is going to let you put that giant poster up! 😛
Right? He's the best 😉
Theeeeee BEST. I would definitely have a life-sized cutout of Spike in my living room!!
Megan – let's go halvesies on the cutout & timeshare it!!!
Oh man! I was so hoping for a Buffy/ Vampire decor blog to be real 🙁 You seriously went the extra mile to set this up Brynne and I Love It!!
Hehe, I just might have to start one – the internet demands it! 🙂
Great job… love it…
Thank you Cathy!
I would love this blog idea! Great work!
Thanks Christine! I wasn't kidding when I said the internet needed more buffy and home decor themed blogs! 😉
Haha Brynne this was awesome!!!! I love the lifesize cutout, that would have been the best!
I think I kinda sorta might actually need that lifesize cutout in my life… So "Crafting with Spike" could be a recurring column 😉
You are the best, Brynne! Best April Fool's prank ever! Love that you went the extra mile and changed your header and changed your sidebar photo haha <3
Aw, thanks Jazmin! I kind of just ran with the idea… It was fun!!!
Hilarious! I love Buffy, but I'm an Angel girl myself 😉
Alright, I can respect that 😉 There's a full-size Angel cutout available from the same website… Just sayin'.
Ahahaha!! Oh my god I LOVED Buffy and of course my fav character was Spike (oh how I loved Spike). I got the whole box set a couple of Christmases ago and now you're making me want to watch it all again 🙂 This is the best April Fool's ever. That is some serious commitment to the cause. I do hope you are keeping the "for justice for puppies for christmas' art!! 😉 xxx
Now I want a boxed set!!! The blog takeover may have been fake, but my obsession with the series is certainly real – I can assure you that the quote artwork is staying! (I even have ideas for more Buffy related crafts – yay!)
I was out of town and didn't realize it was April 1st. For about 2 seconds you had me. I was wondering how you were going to incorporate a vampire theme into all your future DIY projects! Ha! Great post, Brynne. (And I still think Spike would look great in your living room!)
Yay! Haha, too funny! I'm glad I had you going for just a little bit 😉
Great prank. You had me going for more than 2 minutes! I love the idea of a thrifted outfit episode though.
