If you follow me on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram, you may have already heard our news.
You may, in fact, already be sick of hearing about it. #SorryNotSorry that all my social media updates have consisted of this adorable face:
This, my friends, is Tiny Tina. Our adorable, bitty, Valentine’s day kitty.
Fun fact: Abby was adopted on Halloween thirteen years ago, so apparently it’s my destiny in life to adopt kitties on semi-major holidays that I otherwise don’t celebrate! Eek! I accept! Watch out, Saint Patrick’s day…
Bryan and I had been discussing adopting a second kitty for a few weeks, so when I hopped onto Grand Prairie’s animal shelter website on Friday and saw they were having a Valentine’s day adoption special ($14 adoptions, including vaccinations and a spay/neuter voucher!), we decided to visit. Psh, you know I can’t resist a good bargain 😉
They had two large glass “cat rooms” with ramps and climbing trees and perches filled with snoozing cats and a wall of glass-fronted smaller cages stacked to the ceiling. Of course, I flitted back and forth from cat to cat making “eep” noises and falling in love with stripes and fluff and whiskers and bushy tails, when suddenly Bryan stopped me and said, “This one!”
The cage was above my head and I couldn’t even see inside, so he had to pick me up so I could get a peek! I agreed the instant I saw her curled in a little ball in her bed – that was our cat.
They took her out so we could get acquainted with her, but we both already knew we were bringing her home. She was shy but playful and began purring the second I picked her up. They told us she was rescued off the streets at the beginning of January at around 3 months old – I have no idea how she hadn’t been adopted already! Little girl buried her claws in my shirt and hung on for dear life while we filled out the paperwork and finalized her adoption.
You might remember that Bryan and I are huge Borderlands fans… Let’s face it: I married a gamer and succumbed to the dark side. (They have cookies)
These two clips are narrated by Tiny Tina, THE best, most lovable, most hilariously inappropriate character ever written: Exhibit A. Exhibit B. Bryan and I both love her. We are both nerdy nerds. We both love chocolate chip cookies (and hate oatmeal raisin). So naturally, that’s what we named our new tiny, spastic, cuddly kitten.
By the way, she likes video games too:
But mostly she just loves snuggling, which is 100% okay by us!
Let’s all have a collective “aww” now, ladies and gentlemen…
And what does Abby think of new developments around these parts?
“Go away and leave me alone. I was napping. Why is your phone in my face?” #grumpycat
We are keeping them separated for the time being since Tiny Tina came home with an upper respiratory infection and is on antibiotics, but I foresee Abby being typical Abby when they are finally introduced… She will sniff the new kitty a few times, hiss to prove that she’s the undisputed champion title holder for best-snake-impersonation in the county and has a healthy lung capacity, and then continue on with her don’t-care-don’t-bother-me daily routine of napping in sun spots.
If the kitty proves playful or tries to engage she will simply heave herself up and augustly stalk off to a quieter napping location. I doubt they will ever be close, but Abby knows that she can always hop up and steal my lap first, leaving Tiny Tina to cuddle with Bryan 😉
Plus, Abby totally has bed privileges.
If you aren’t a cat person or don’t get cat people, I totally apologize for the conversion of my blog/online presence to kitty-mania at the moment… It’s not my current intent to switch from DIY projects to feline tabloid news, but I do reserve the right to do so at any point in the future 😉
Hoping to have some home-related posts coming your way soon!
Congrats again! She is oh-so adorable!
She makes my heart go "squee" every time I look at her 🙂
Your "Living Pretty with Your Pets" series is actually what made me want another kitty so bad! So thanks to you, she now has a good home!
She is so presh!!! Congrats on your new baby!!!
She is!!! If this is any indication of how obnoxiously doting I'll be as a parent, I'm in trouble 😉
So, so sweet! I always wanted a grey kitty. I adopted my cat. She was black. Her mother was grey. They told me she would turn grey. Um, blond moment? Congrats on your new addition! I hope she is feeling better!
I LOVE video games! We have played Borderlands, but never finished it. Have you played Bioshock? My favorite video game is Monster Hunter. Video games are rad! ; )

Haha! Too funny! Tiny Tina is feeling a lot better, and consequently has turned into a very very hyper and playful kitty… She's hilarious.
My husband has played Bioshock while I sat and watched (I know, I'm weird, but to me it's like watching a really long action movie and I get to make suggestions). Borderlands 2 was much, much better than the first one, so you should definitely play it! The characters and the dialogue are amazing, especially Tiny Tina 🙂
: ). I only like to watch him play the scary games. That way I can run around screaming and twisting my hands. I agree. It is like an awesome scary movie. With puzzles to solve.
I will have to check out Borderlands 2. It is such a great price now.

She's adorable Brynn! Gray tabbies always have the best personalities, I think. Congratulations! ~Lisa @ Practically Perfect Home
Thanks Lisa! She's a sweetheart – I can't wait to see how her personality turns out as she grows up!
Kitty! Love! Tiny Tina so sweet. At least you didn't adopt a groundhog on Groundhog's Day?
ps–I love your name. It is on my baby name list. 🙂
Omg, I hadn't even thought of looking into groundhog adoptions!!! I guess there's always next year 😉
Thanks Erin! I'm a bit biased about that name, but I say go for it! 🙂
Aaahhh she's so cute! I've loved cats ever since living with my old roommate's two cats. I still don't consider myself a cat person… but I still love them haha <3.
That's how I am with dogs 🙂 I can think other people's dogs are adorable and sweet and loveable, but I'm just not a dog person myself!
Such a sweet little kitty! Congrats on your newest family member!
