Found: Hollywood Regency Burl, Brass & Chrome Dresser

September 9, 2012 by Brynne 4 Comments

A new photography angle for once!  My paltry skills simply do not do this piece justice.  I am making it my mission to really learn how to use my camera.  These pictures convince me how necessary that is!

Ah, back to the tried-and-true shooting from next to the front door angle.  And on to talking about this piece.  It’s burl-ish.  Or rather, I have no idea what to call the finish on it, and can only say it truly looks way AWESOMER in person.  I thought it was laminate, but I used a magic eraser to try to clean up some marker stains, and wood does not like magic eraser.  I’ve concluded it’s a veneer of some sort.  Seriously, many times I have no idea what I’m doing… Trial and error.  I repeat, do not use magic eraser on real wood ever.  Thankfully, a little Feed-N-Wax cleaned up the milky white stains left by the magic eraser.

One of the reasons this reads better in person than in photographs is the metal used on the piece – chrome and brass trim supposed to be reminiscent of bamboo (I believe) and the zaniest drawer pulls ever.  They look white, but it’s just light reflecting off the strangely textured chrome at the back of the pulls.

Yes, there’s a lot going on in this piece, but in the right room it would totally ROCK.

And I have matching night-stands… They’re pretty sweet.

I am sick! I just purchased a few days ago the matching headboard to this piece and you are correct, it is beautiful! Now I cannot figure out what would go with the headboard, since I need a chest or dresser for the drawer space. Any ideas? The headboard is a bookcase headboard and absolutely gorgeous. Out of curiousity(in the event I should some day find the matching piece )what is the approximate selling price?
Beautiful piece, I just wish I had run across your site so one.

Oh wow – I haven’t seen the matching headboard, but I bet it is lovely! I found these pieces at a thrift store and then actually sold them several years ago at a pretty low price during a move, so I’m not sure I can give you the best idea on a selling price.

I’m a huge fan of mixing and matching furniture styles, so even if you aren’t able to track down a matching dresser, I’m sure there are all kinds of fun vintage/vintage-style pieces that would look great with your headboard!

Wishing you luck in your decorating adventure!
      All the best,
