So the master bedroom is painted and prettified.
Once I started adding decorative elements it went very…pink.
Pink will probably not remain as the prominent accent color, but I had it on hand and it was fun to throw together a pretty look in less than an hour that entailed absolutely no new purchases!
The master bedroom started out like this:
(I find grainy phone photos to be the perfect “before” photos because all I have to do is switch to a decent camera and voila! – improvement!)
Then the popcorn got scraped and it looked something like this:
And the ceilings got spackled, sanded, primed and painted, and we installed a new ceiling fan, and then the room looked like this:
And now the room looks like this:
I love the new gray wall color! It’s “Wood Smoke” by Glidden and has a good amount of beige in it, so it’s a very warm gray – at times I can see the faintest hints of lavender, tan or green all depending on the lighting and the time of day. It’s a perfect neutral, mid-tone gray in my book!
You’ll notice that the DIY electrical tape art is just sitting on top of the headboard because I wanted to see if I liked it there before putting holes into my newly velvety smooth walls. We’ll see if I remember to take it down when I head to bed, or if I forget and it falls on my head in the middle of the night… (If I were you, I’d stake money on the latter.)
And in the corner you can spot a leaning canvas and a lonely Chinese Chippendale chair. I have plans to place a vanity/desk on that portion of the wall.
Look how much the brass lights up the room! I feel like Midas. (Okay, now I’m seriously contemplating how awesome it would be if I could touch things and turn them into brass. A brass iPhone? A brass laptop? Glorious!)
This is the infamous bed frame. $100 off of Craigslist. You are allowed to hate me. I’ll cry it out with my brassy bff.
Don’t take any notice of the seriously wrinkled linens in my life… Work in progress, people, work in progress:
This adorable vintage “eyeball” lamp I picked up at Goodwill sometime last year is one of my favorite thrifted finds ever (also it was $7). I’ve been hanging onto it waiting for the perfect place to use it. I kind of love the yellow, but it’s someone else’s terrible spray-paint job on top of the original chrome finish and just not that appealing up close and personal. At the moment I’m considering painting it black.
The marble base is perfection:
The ocean painting below represents a little better the colors I want to bring into this room – greyed and muddy blues and greens. I’m planning to paint the frame, since that awful pickled stain is doing nothing for me, but I haven’t decided on a color yet. Would black be too stark?
(Sad tale of woe about my vintage Lane lacquered dresser {via Craigslist, $60}: I used a magic eraser to clean some marks off the front and it also totally removed the shine. Does anyone have any tips for that? I’m kicking myself. Just keep magic erasers away from furniture, folks. Magic erasers + furniture = bad. Not good. Sucktastic. Depressing.)
Well, there you have it. I hope you enjoyed this little peek into my 60-minute decorating spree today! I can almost absolutely guarantee you that this room will go in a completely different direction soon, but the pink is sure fun for now, isn’t it?
P.S. You guys are just the best – for reading my blog, for encouraging and motivating me, for plotting to assassinate me and steal my bedframe – everything I want in my friends! Thanks for following along!

It's so so gorgeous and I'm so so jealous!
(sorry about the magic eraser damage)
Thank you Julia! It always makes my day to get your sweet comments 🙂

Thank you Cassie! I'm having fun with the pink so far! My husband is less of a fan 😉
I love all of your thrifty finds! Found you from Cuckoo 4 Design.
Kat, I'm so glad you stopped by! Welcome 🙂
Wow your room looks like a page from a magazine! Those wrinkles add character and make it look 'livable.' Great work girl, wish I had half the styling power you have!!
Oh and that black and teal painting– I hope its either 1: DIY'd or 2: you divulge all the deets!
Aw, thank you Trisha! 🙂
I did the painting, and hilariously enough, Bryan HATES it! I have no idea why, but he thinks it's the ugliest thing ever, lol! I'm a bit partial to it myself though – I guess my ego is big enough not to be bothered, haha 🙂
Yay, so glad to hear it's DIY'd!
Love the new look Brynne!! The brass bed is to die for! I have that same needlepoint pillow 😉 You did a grand job!
No way – the same one? I LOVE this little pillow to death. Keep yours safe or I may come for it… 😉
Thank you so much Dria!
This is gorgeous! So pretty and love the minimalist look. Great art piece behind the chair, too.
Thank you Kari! I'll have to share better pictures of the art – it's one of my favorites 🙂
That is So Damned Pretty!! I adore the gold headboard!
Thank you Rebecca! 😀
I WANT THE BED!!! WAAAAHHHHH
Lol Megan! Haha 🙂
Bryanne, do you know who makes the bed? Is there a maker stamp or sticker anywhere? I'm dying. Please help.
I'm so sorry – I don't! I've often wondered that myself, but unfortunately there's no mark to be found!
That bed frame is incredible! Loving the styling already.
Thank you so much 🙂 I'm so glad you like the styling!
that bed is amazing. amazing!!!
Thank you Emily! It's a keeper for sure 🙂
$100? For that bed? You're kidding, right?! I need to take a moment to process this…
Who sells THAT BED for THAT CHEAP?! I think we need to hang out so your super lucky thrifting/Craigslist vibes can rub off onto me haha
Someone whose house was full of bad 80's furniture and had the bed draped in gauzy BLACK curtains in the Craigslist posting photo! I seriously almost passed on it… Everyone kept telling me how gaudy & ugly it was, lol!
Love the furniture!! And amazing ceiling fan. Want to hear something nutty? I just bought that exact same grey little table with the drop down sides. I had thought about listing it in my etsy shop, then I thought about painting it but now I love it as-is!
Tanya from dans-le-townhouse.blogspot.com
It's such a fun and versatile little table! I've already moved it around the house several times and it just works everywhere 🙂
Are you kidding me with that bed?! $100?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I'm dying.
That is the most AMAZING bed I have ever seen! Love your room.
I love the ceiling fan – would you mind tell me where it's from? Also that bed! CL is the best thing ever.
Thank you Mary! It's the Devereaux II 52" Weathered Brass ceiling fan from Hampton Bay.
Your new room is gorgeous and that bed is just amazing!!!
